Alan McIntyre
Chief Operating Officer

Alan McIntyre is Chief Operating Officer of Oliver Wyman Group, providing global leadership of the firm’s internal operations (Information Technology, HR operations, and Marketing operations) as well as the operating management of the Actuarial, Corporate Risk, and Leadership Development business units of Oliver Wyman. Alan is also an active consulting Partner in Oliver Wyman’s Financial Services business unit. 

Alan has over 20 years experience as a consultant to financial institutions across the globe. He served as Head of Oliver Wyman’s North American Financial Services practice from 2005-2008 where he had responsibility for all consulting work spanning Retail and Wholesale Banking, Capital Markets, all Insurance sectors as well as Corporate Risk work for non-financial services clients.  Prior to this appointment, Alan served as Chief Operating Officer of Mercer Oliver Wyman (now the Financial Services unit of Oliver Wyman) from April 2003 to December 2004. Prior to this appointment Alan was responsible for a number of our major banking relationships in Western Europe, including two of the leading UK banks. Alan also has extensive experience working with Oliver Wyman clients in the US, Canada, Australia and Continental Europe.

Alan’s consulting work has focused on banking strategy with particular emphasis on marketing and distribution issues in both retail and commercial banking. Recent significant projects include a comprehensive strategy review for a leading US regional bank; a strategic transformation program for the domestic operations of one of the largest Canadian Banks; a strategy review for a major US mortgage originator hit hard by the recent liquidity and credit crises in the US; a bank wide cost reduction program for a US regional bank which eliminated ~10% of run rate non-interest expenses; the redesign of the Treasury function of a Canadian universal bank and a new performance measurement and management framework for the retail branch network of one of the leading UK banks.

Alan holds an MBA from IMD in Lausanne Switzerland, an M. Phil in Finance from Pembroke College, Cambridge and an MA in Economics and Philosophy from Glasgow University.
